City of Gastonia administrative offices will be closed Monday, Nov. 11 for Veterans Day. However, Gastonia will be the site of a Veterans Day Parade organized by the Gaston County Veterans Council.
The parade will be held Nov. 11 beginning at 11 a.m. at the intersection of Broad Street and Main Avenue in Gastonia. The parade route will travel:
- West on Main Avenue through Downtown Gastonia.
- South on South Street, crossing Franklin Boulevard.
- East on Second Avenue, ending at Memorial Hall at 109 W. Second Ave.
A brief ceremony at Memorial Hall will follow the parade.
City transit buses will not run on Nov. 11. And there will be no garbage or recycling pickup on Veterans Day. Monday customers will have their carts emptied on Tuesday, Nov. 12. The City will not provide excess household trash collection or leaf vacuuming on Nov. 11 or 12. Residents can use the WasteWise app to receive personalized notifications about holiday-related changes to Solid Waste collection. Customers can also use the “My Schedule” tool on the City’s webpage to keep track of their garbage and recycling collection schedule.
On Veterans Day, The Schiele Museum of Natural History, Gastonia City parks, and the Skeet and Trap Range will be open. However, the City’s community centers will be closed on Veterans Day.
In addition, all five Gastonia community centers serve as polling places and will not offer recreation activities on Tuesday, Nov. 5 because of municipal elections.
