People wait in line at the Gastonia Farmers Market Sunday afternoon to get their free facemask giving out by the City of Gastonia.

Free face masks were distributed Sunday afternoon as part of the city of Gastonia’s “Masks for Gastonia” promotion.

The masks were handed out to those driving up during a two-hour period at the Gastonia Farmers Market.

The masks, which are a three-ply, 100-percent natural cotton mask with ear loops, were manufactured by Parkdale Mills in Gastonia. The masks can be machine washed up to 15 times.

“We want to help our community stay healthy during this time, and ‘Masks for Gastonia’ is a special event that shows how the city is giving back to our community during the pandemic,” Mayor Walker Reid previously said in a statement released by the city.
