Gastonia rec centers receive extensive renovations

Four Gastonia recreation centers and the Department of Parks and Recreation offices in Memorial Hall have received extensive renovations in the past few months.

The renovations had been planned and budgeted for 2020 but the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic and the closing of the facilities made the work go more quickly with fewer interruptions, city staff said.

The renovations include:

ERWIN COMMUNITY CENTER

  • New flooring in offices, the game room, the library, the clubroom and hallways.
  • New tiling in public bathrooms.
  • New counter tops
  • New painting of the outdoor basketball court, including a Black Lives Matter mural.
  • New interior painting
  • A new scoreboard for the gym

BRADLEY COMMUNITY CENTER

  • New flooring in offices, game room and hallways.
  • New interior painting
  • New gymnasium flooring
  • New counter tops
  • Repainting of outdoor basketball courts

T. JEFFERS COMMUNITY CENTER

  • New interior painting
  • New flooring in game room and hallways
  • New scoreboard
  • New gymnasium flooring
  • New scoreboard

PHILLIPS COMMUNITY CENTER

  • New gymnasium flooring
  • New scoreboard

MEMORIAL HALL

  • New irrigation system
  • New interior painting
  • New flooring for offices.

“These renovations are a great investment for our community,” said Mayor Walker Reid. “We want to continue helping our communities stay healthy and providing upgraded facilities that everyone can enjoy.”
