Fourth of July Holiday Closings, Fireworks Display and Activities

City of Gastonia administrative offices will be closed on Tuesday, July 4 in observance of the Independence Day holiday, which is also a holiday for City employees. The public is advised to take note of closures and delays of some scheduled services. Below is more information as it pertains to City services:

 

CITY SERVICES

Bus Schedule

  • City transit buses will not run on Tuesday, July 4.
  • Regular schedule on Monday, July 3 and Wednesday, July 5.

Trash Pick-up

  • On Tuesday, July 4, the City will not collect garbage, yard waste, and will not pick up excess household trash or large, bulky items.
  • Customers with Tuesday garbage pickup will have their garbage collected on Wednesday, July 5.
  • Collection of yard waste and excess household trash will resume on Thursday July 6.
  • Tuesday and Wednesday yard waste and excess household trash residents will be delayed until the following week on customers’ regularly scheduled day.

Parks & Recreation, Museum

  • City parks and picnic shelters will be open on July 4, including the Skeet & Trap Range, Lineberger Pool, splash pads at Erwin and Lineberger parks, the miniature train at Lineberger Park, and boat rentals at Rankin Lake Park. Check the respective web pages for hours and costs.
  • Community centers and administrative offices will be closed on Tuesday, July 4.
  • The Schiele Museum will be open to the general public on Tuesday, July 4 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Museum administrative offices will be closed.

Street Closures & Parking

  • East and West Rotary Pavilion parking lots will be shut down early morning on July 4
    (East lot shut down after Carriage House resident parking)
  • Long Avenue between Dr. MLK Jr. Way and Broad Street will be closed between 4:00 p.m. and 9:45 p.m.
  • Main Avenue between Dr. MLK Jr. Way and 321/N. York Street will close at 12:30 p.m. and re-open once all vendors are off the street.
  • South Street from Main Avenue to the top entrance of Garland Center parking lot will be closed at 12:30 p.m.
  • Activities will begin at 5 p.m. in Downtown Gastonia at the Rotary Pavilion
  • Fireworks display starting at 9:30 p.m. and accompanied by patriotic music.
  • The celebration will include live music, food trucks, a beer garden, vendors, rides, inflatables, and carnival games.
  • Food and beverages may be purchased, but there is no cost to attend.
  • The event is presented by the City of Gastonia and sponsored CaroMont Health.
