The Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) of the United States and Canada has presented a Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting and an Award of Financial Reporting Achievement (AFRA) to the City of Gastonia’s Finance Department. The City received the honor for its annual comprehensive financial report for the fiscal year which ended June 30, 2022.
“We are very proud to receive this recognition from the GFOA again this year,” said Crystal Certain, the City’s Director of Financial Services. “We are committed to sound fiscal stewardship and consistent financial management.”
The City’s report was judged by an impartial panel to meet the high standards of the program, which includes demonstrating a constructive “spirit of full disclosure” to clearly communicate its financial story and motivate potential users and user groups to read the report.
“The Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition in governmental accounting and financial reporting, and its attainment represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its management,” said Michele M. Levine, Director of Technical Services for GFOA.
