City of Gastonia Hosts Community Open House Meetings for New Microtransit Service

The City of Gastonia will host multiple public information sessions for its new ridesharing service, Go Gastonia, which launches July 1, 2024.

WHEN:          The City will host multiple meetings that are free and open to the public. The meetings will be drop-in with no formal presentation at a set time. Staff will be available to answer any questions and provide information about the new system.

First meeting:
Wednesday, June 5 from 1:00 – 5:00 p.m.
Phillips Center, 2031 Echo Lane in Gastonia.

WHY:             The City’s Transportation Department will phase out fixed-route buses and transition to an on-demand transit service. The sessions are free and open to the public.

HOW:             The new service will be offered by TransitTech provider Via starting July 1, 2024.

Gastonia Transit currently operates six fixed-routes within the City of Gastonia and is characterized as a “pulse” system with the majority of the routes beginning and ending at the Bradley Station at regular intervals. The agency covers nearly 295,000 miles per year, providing service to over 144,000 passengers in FY 2023. The system currently averages seven passengers per vehicle hour across all routes.
