Sorority and volunteers plant flowers for the Highland Community Garden

Volunteers plant flowers

Gardeners tending to their plots in the Highland Community Garden, now have beautiful flowers to greet them – all due to the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc., Zeta Mu Omega Chapter. Members of the sorority and community volunteers planted the flowers as part of the 1908 Playground Mobilization Day initiative which restores, renews and refreshes community spaces and playgrounds.

“We are grateful to the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority for the beautiful planting of flowers around the Highland Community Garden sign,” said Pat Johnson, administrator of Keep Gastonia Beautiful. “The donation of plant material and installation certainly spruced up the area. Volunteers are the best!”

The Highland Community Garden season runs from March to November – weather permitting. For this season all the garden’s 15 plots, which sell for $20 a plot for the season, have been sold. Questions? Please call 704-869-1008.
