City of Gastonia Announces Christmas and New Year’s Closings, Schedule Changes

Christmas and New Year’s Day will affect office hours and services provided by the City of Gastonia. City administrative offices will be closed Tuesday, Dec. 24; Wednesday, Dec. 25 and Wednesday, Jan. 1.

Solid Waste:

  • Garbage and recycling will be collected on Tuesday, Dec. 24.
  • No collection Wednesday, Dec. 25. Both Wednesday and Thursday garbage and recycling routes will be collected on Thursday, Dec. 26.
  • No collection on Wednesday, Jan. 1. Both Wednesday and Thursday routes will be collected on Thursday, Jan. 2.
  • January’s curbside yard waste pickup, including discarded live Christmas trees, will occur on customers’ regular pickup day Jan. 6-10. Artificial Christmas trees are not yard waste. They are considered household trash.

Residents can use the WasteWise app and web page to keep track of garbage, recycling, leaf vacuuming and yard waste pickup schedules.

Transit:

  • Buses will run a Saturday schedule Tuesday, Dec. 24.
  • No transit service Wednesday, Dec. 25 and Wednesday, Jan 1.

Parks and Recreation:

  • Community Centers and administrative offices closed Dec. 24 and 25.
  • Community Centers will close at 5 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 31 and will be closed Jan 1.
  • Skeet and Trap Range closed Dec. 24, 25 and 31, and Jan. 1.
  • Parks will be open sunrise to sunset during the holidays.

Schiele Museum:

  • Closed Dec. 24 and 25.
  • Regular hours Jan. 1.
  • Special holiday planetarium shows through December: “Season of Light” and “Let it Snow.”
