The City of Gastonia’s Communications and Marketing Department was among 29 North Carolina governments to earn recognition in the North Carolina City & County Communicators’ (NC3C) 2021 Excellence in Communications Awards. The City won two first place awards and one second place award for print, digital, and internal communications.
“We are proud of the good work that our Communications and Marketing staff is doing to keep our residents informed and to promote our city,” said City Manager Michael Peoples. “Our mayor and council, residents, visitors, customers, and others rely on effective communications and marketing to help with future planning.”
The awards were announced April 29, 2022, at the NC3C annual conference. All 111 award program entries from 30 jurisdictions were judged by professional communications peers from the Minnesota Association of Government Communicators.
“The Excellence in Communications Awards are my favorite part of our annual conference, right behind seeing all my friends and colleagues from across the state,” said outgoing NC3C President Joshua Harris, City of Lenoir, NC. “It’s the time when our members really get to shine for creating content that rose to the top, which is not so easy a feat in our state full of amazing local government communicators.”
The City of Gastonia received awards in the following categories:
First place:
• Digital Newsletter – Employee Focus
• Writing – “First Horticulturalist takes Gastonia beyond ‘garden variety’”
Second place:
• Social Media Campaign: #TuesdayFUSEday
The City’s Communications and Marketing Department employs three staff persons and offers a wide range of communications and marketing services to internal clients, including strategic planning, media relations, digital communications, print and advertising.
