City of Gastonia Hires New Chief Information Officer

The City of Gastonia has hired Chris Koltyk as its new Chief Information Officer (CIO), who began his position on July 11, 2022. He will lead the Technology Services Department, which provides support and services for the City in the following areas: network and Wi-Fi, GIS, email, internet, radio and telephone communication, database and server administration, application development and implementation, web development, public safety systems, Help Desk, computer and device support, and IT security.

“I am honored to join the City of Gastonia,” said Koltyk. “I am passionate about information technology, and I am excited to lead a team of highly qualified technology professionals as we continue to provide the services our employees and external customers need.”

Chris Koltyk most recently served as Assistant Director for the NC Department of Public Safety’s Division of Emergency Management. He was the CIO for the City of Jacksonville, NC, and Geographic Information Systems Director for Moore County, NC. Koltyk earned a Master of Public Administration/City & County Management degree from Appalachian State University and a Master of Science degree in Economics/International Trade from the University of Gdansk, Poland. He has also completed the Certified Government Chief Information Officer and County Administration programs through the University of North Carolina’s School of Government.
