Holidays May Affect Some City Services

Christmas and New Year’s Day holidays will affect office hours and services provided by the City of Gastonia. City administrative offices will be closed on Friday, Dec. 23 and Monday, Dec. 26, 2022 for the Christmas holiday and on Monday, Jan. 2, 2023 for the New Year’s Day holiday.

Solid Waste:

  • Only garbage will be collected on Friday, Dec. 23.
  • Monday (Dec. 26) and Tuesday (Dec. 27) garbage will be collected on Tuesday, Dec. 27.
  • Monday (Jan. 2) and Tuesday (Jan. 3) garbage will be collected on Tuesday, Jan. 3.
  • Live Christmas trees can be placed at the curb for collection on regularly scheduled garbage and yard waste pick-up days starting Jan. 4. Please remove all lights, tinsel and ornaments from discarded live trees.
  • Artificial Christmas trees are not yard waste. They are considered household trash.
  • Residents can use the WasteWise app to keep track of garbage, yard waste and leaf vacuuming schedules.

Transit:

City buses will run a Saturday schedule:

  • Friday, Dec. 23
  • Saturday, Dec. 31

No Transit service on Dec. 24, 25  or 26, or on Monday, Jan. 2.

Parks and Recreation:

  • Community Centers will be closed Dec. 23 – Dec. 26 and Dec. 31 – Jan. 2.
  • The Skeet & Trap Range will be closed on Dec. 24, Dec. 25 and Jan. 1.
  • City parks will be open during regular hours.

Schiele Museum:

  • Closed Dec. 24 and 25.
  • Regular hours on Dec. 26 and Jan. 1.
