WHAT: Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for New Pickleball Courts at T. Jeffers Community Center

WHERE: T. Jeffers Community Center 121 Hartman Street in Gastonia
WHY: Pickleball has risen in popularity since 2020 and according to CNN, pickelball is America’s fastest-growing sport.
The City’s Parks & Recreation Department has finished 15 pickelball courts, fencing, and lighting in response to increased demand from the public to have dedicated pickelball-only courts for individual play and to host tournaments.
The approximate cost for 15 pickelball courts funded through American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) as part of the City’s commitment to improving healthy communities. The project was completed in about five months.
The Parks & Recreation Department is working with the City’s Housing and Community Engagement Department to purchase a shelter with restrooms funded by CDBG federal dollars. This portion of the project is scheduled to be completed in the Spring of 2024.
