Gastonia and much of the North Carolina Piedmont are included in a Winter Storm Warning until 6 p.m.
Snow began falling at 5 a.m. and 1-2 inches is expected to accumulate by mid-afternoon.
- Public Works crews are applying slag today to streets and bridges, on top of brine applied to priority roads yesterday. Plowing will begin this afternoon.
- City bus service has been canceled for the remainder of today (Wednesday) and tomorrow (Thursday morning. Transit service will resume at 1:30 p.m. Thursday.
- Recycling pickup will be delayed one day this week. Green-week customers are to leave gray recycling carts at the curb until they are collected, including on Saturday.
- City offices will close at 3:30 today (Wednesday) and reopen at 10 a.m. tomorrow (Thursday).
- Emergency personnel such as public works, police and fire will continue working as usual.
