Have you ever wondered what the inside of a fire truck looks like, or how crews operate a bucket truck? Maybe you are interested in what jobs are available with the City? The public can see and touch some city vehicles and learn about jobs when the City of Gastonia hosts “Touch a Truck + Civics Day”.
DATE: Saturday, April 30, 2022
TIME: 11 a.m. – 1 p.m.
LOCATION: Erwin Recreation Center, 913 N. Pryor Street, Gastonia
“This event will be a fun time in for our youth to see and touch City equipment and learn about the type of jobs that are available to them as they think about careers,” said Cherie Jzar, Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Coordinator. “It will also be a good time for adults to come and learn about current employment opportunities.”
Here’s what to expect:
- Live truck demonstrations (fire trucks, bucket trucks, police cars, etc.)
- Free food and drinks
- Learn about job openings with the City
“A lot of the kids that I coach in high school and youth sports are not familiar with the opportunities that exist in local government,” said Sgt. Shaunte’ Southern, who organized the event. “This event is a fun way to make them aware of career opportunities with the City of Gastonia. It also helps the city work towards our goal of being a more diverse work force.”
