Gastonia plans Bike-to-Work event

National Bike to Work Day

May is National Bike Month, and the City of Gastonia will host its first Bike-to-Work event on Friday, May 17. Bicyclists will gather at 7:30 a.m. at Lineberger Park at 632 Garrison Blvd. and ride to the Rotary Pavilion in Downtown Gastonia. Breakfast snacks from Java House will be provided at the Rotary Pavilion.

The event is free, but participants are asked to register by May 13 to make sure there’s enough food for all who take part.

The route is about 1.5 miles and cyclists will make rest stops along the way. The route was chosen to showcase recent City of Gastonia projects.

People without a bike can check out a bicycle at the Zagster Bike Sharestation at the Avon Creek Greenway across the street from the starting point. To use a Zagster bike, you will have to set up a Zagster account.

In case of inclement weather, the Bike-to-Work event will be rescheduled. If the event is postponed, emails will be sent to those who registered.
